Meet Dr. Yazan Khatib, FCCI President

FCCI's President has spent his career opening blocked leg vessels without major surgery.

Dr. Yazan Khatib, President of First Coast Cardiovascular Institute

Dr. Yazan Khatib is the President of First Coast Cardiovascular Institute (FCCI) and specializes in cardiac and endovascular interventions. He holds FACC, FSCAI, FABVM and FSVM designations, the last two tied to vascular medicine. If you want a Jacksonville vein and vessel team led from the top by a vascular physician, this is it.

Training

Dr. Khatib graduated with honors from Damascus University Medical School. He trained at the Cleveland Clinic, Loyola University in Chicago, the Indiana Heart Institute and St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He then returned to Chicago for six months of extra training in the endovascular management of peripheral vessels, which his FCCI profile lists as legs, kidneys, aorta, arms and head.

A focus on legs

His profile describes a long record with endovascular non-surgical techniques, including opening obstructed leg vessels. He co-founded the Save a Leg, Save a Life Foundation, which works with medical professionals, caregivers and patients to prevent amputations in people with wounds and complications from diabetes and peripheral arterial disease.

He also helped found the Outpatient Endovascular Interventional Society (OEIS) and serves on its board, with a focus on safety and outcomes in office based cath labs.

Firsts and recognition

  • Named a Health Care Hero by the Jacksonville Business Journal in 2009
  • Honoree of the 2012 ONEJAX Humanitarian award
  • In 2018, the first physician in Northeast Florida to offer PAD patients IntraVascular Lithotripsy, per FCCI's History of Firsts
  • Past Board President of the American Heart Association, First Coast Chapter

He lectures nationally and internationally and has trained many physicians.

Why this matters for vein care

Leadership sets the tone. FCCI built the first freestanding outpatient cardiac and peripheral vascular cath lab in Jacksonville in 2007 and says it is the only freestanding cath lab focused on treating clotted veins. That outpatient model is part of why FCCI says its vein services keep costs low and visits convenient.

Dr. Khatib also speaks Arabic and French. Ask about his schedule at 904.493.3333.

About the Vein Clinic at FCCI

Dr. Khatib leads a practice that has served Northeast Florida since 2002. Under his watch as President, FCCI's Vein Clinic brings together board certified endovascular and vascular physicians, and the same building holds cardiology, sleep medicine, wound care and pulmonary teams.

Vein scans at FCCI are performed by registered vascular technologists in a lab accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. Dr. Khatib's team treats veins outpatient, which FCCI says keeps visits convenient and costs low.
